Alien Cake Lady

My dream last night was very, VERY messed up.

I was at work. We were getting in a patient that was very sick. No one really knew what was wrong with her other than she was dying - and we figured surgery might be her only hope.

She got into the OR and her skin was very hot to the touch, it felt like she was on fire! She was complaining of feeling cold, though, so I offered to grab her some warm blankets.

Instead, she requested cake. Yes, cake.

So I went out into the pod and found chocolate cake with vanilla frosting just... there xD I brought it into the room and I can't remember if I actually laid it on the bed for her to lay on top of or if I laid it on top of her to "warm her up". Either way, I just know I had to scoop them from the serving tray onto the OR table one 4-inch square piece at a time. I was a little hesitant to give it to her at first because I was afraid she'd eat it and I knew I needed to keep her NPO, but she promised it was just to keep her warm and she wouldn't eat any of it.

I remember being really frightened. I knew this lady didn't stand a chance and I was really worried about what was wrong with her. We knew we were on the brink of discovering some crazy new ailment and this surgery, and what we found, would be all over the news.

I also remember thinking "Gosh I wish this was just some nightmare I could wake up from!". I was convinced, convinced that this was real. I was working with real people (a real surgeon and resident that I work with for real) and in a real place (pretty sure we were in OR 2). Everything about it was so visual and life-like that I was so sure it was really happening. In fact, when I woke up from this particular dream, I was so disoriented it isn't even funny!

So anyways, after laying the cake down and doing some other weird interventions that I can't remember, the lady went to sleep and the surgeons opened her abdomen.

They found a parasitic alien-like growth in her lymph system that was about the size of an egg. It was cream-colored and hard/springy like a plaque-filled vessel and it had gross little tendrils coming off of it. I think at this point they split it open and it had nasty wriggling green things in it.

This is the part of the dream where my MRSAphobe self kicked in and I started freaking out because I had totally touched the lady with my bare hands (touching her shoulder to help her slide over to the table) and now I was sure I would be infected too!

I think something went down with pathology and quarantining the department next, but I don't really remember. I just remember waking up and saying "Wait, so it really WAS a dream?" and being so confused, freaked out, and relieved at the same time.

It had the potential to be a really cool, creepy, sci-fi medical thriller... minus the whole random cake thing in there.

Here's hoping I have unicorns and rainbows tonight. No more tossing and turning for me!
